Crisis Rocks PDP: Two Osun Senators Jump Ship Amid Irreconcilable Differences

The internal crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken a new turn with the resignation of two Senators from Osun State, Olubiyi Fadeyi (Osun Central) and Francis Fadahunsi (Osun East). In separate letters to their respective ward chairmen, the lawmakers cited irreconcilable differences, prolonged internal crises, and multiple court cases as the reasons for their exit.

Senator Fadeyi's resignation letter, dated July 12, 2025, addressed to the PDP Chairman, Ward 3, Oke Ejigbo, Ila Orangun, Osun State, stated that his decision followed extensive consultations with political allies and family members. He noted that the party's internal strife had weakened its cohesion and focus, prompting him to resign with immediate effect.

Fadeyi's letter read in part, "I wish to formally notify you that I am resigning my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with immediate effect. Irreconcilable differences and irreparable division that have emerged and court cases and counter court cases in the last 3 years, which have created factions in the party at the national level." He added that his decision was not taken lightly but was the result of prolonged internal strife that had rendered the party ineffective.

Similarly, Senator Fadahunsi, a two-term Senator representing Osun East, submitted his resignation letter, dated June 12, 2025, to the PDP Ward 4 Chairman. Fadahunsi cited irreparable differences and protracted legal battles plaguing the party at the national level since the 2023 general elections as the reasons for his departure.

Fadahunsi's letter read, "I wish to formally notify you that I am resigning my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with immediate effect, due to the irreparable, irreconcilable differences and protracted legal battles that have bedevilled the party at the national level after the 2023 general elections." He stated that his decision was concluded after consultation and engagement with his political associates, family, and friends.

The resignations of the two senators have further underscored the deepening crisis within the PDP. The party has been grappling with internal conflicts and power struggles, which have affected its performance in recent elections. The exit of Fadeyi and Fadahunsi is a significant blow to the party's already dwindling fortunes.

As the PDP grapples with its internal crisis, the party's leadership is expected to take drastic measures to address the concerns of its members and restore confidence in the party. However, with the resignation of two of its prominent members, it remains to be seen how the party will recover from this latest setback.
