Keke Driver's Hammer Attack Leaves Passenger Fighting for Life in Uyo

A disturbing incident unfolded in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, when a Keke (tricycle) driver allegedly attacked a passenger with a hammer during a heated argument over a ₦50 change. The victim, a young man with no known history of trouble, was brutally assaulted and left unconscious with severe head injuries.

*The Incident*

According to eyewitnesses, the altercation began when the passenger asked the driver for his balance. In response, the driver pulled out a heavy hammer from his tricycle and struck the passenger on the head, causing significant damage to his skull, particularly in the medulla oblongata area. The victim was rushed to two hospitals before being referred to the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital (UUTH), where he received urgent medical attention.

*A Desperate Plea for Oxygen*

A Good Samaritan, Inemesit Umo-udofia, who helped transport the victim to UUTH, recounted the harrowing experience. "The young man was gasping for air and urgently needed oxygen to survive. With no cash in hand and the oxygen costing ₦19,000, I reached out to friends and supporters for help." Thankfully, immediate financial support was provided by Pastor Voiceubongabasi Udokang and Ms Nyakno Ruth Emmanuel, who responded swiftly and generously to save the man's life.

*Current Status and Investigation*

The victim is currently receiving treatment at UUTH and is gradually recovering, thanks to the efforts of the hospital staff and those who supported his emergency care. Meanwhile, the registration number of the Keke involved in the incident has been noted, and efforts are underway to trace the identity of the driver for further investigation and justice.

*A Call for Accountability*

This incident highlights the need for accountability and responsibility among commercial drivers. The use of violence in resolving disputes is unacceptable and can have devastating consequences. As the investigation unfolds, it is essential to ensure that justice is served, and the victim receives the support he needs to recover fully.
