Amaechi Vows to Contest ADC Presidential Primary, Rules Out Stepping Down

A report from VANGUARD's official X account on August 28, 2025, states that Rotimi Amaechi, former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, has declared he will not step aside for anyone in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary.

This follows the announcement by Amaechi, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola, Peter Obi, David Mark, and other prominent Nigerian politicians, who have chosen the ADC as a coalition platform to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 elections.

Amaechi, addressing the ADC primary, expressed his determination to compete, stating, “I will contest the ADC presidential primary, and by God’s grace, I hope to win so that I can face Tinubu in 2027. I am not stepping down for anyone. Let the people decide who they want to lead,” according to VANGUARD.

The former minister aims to secure the ADC presidential ticket to take on President Tinubu in the 2027 general election.
