In a heartfelt demonstration of remembrance and support, the Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, presented ₦53,755,844.94 to 34 families of police officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
The presentation, held during the 2026 National Police Week celebration, was marked by deep emotion and reflection, as the Command paid tribute to the courage and selflessness of officers who gave their lives to protect others.
Describing the moment as both solemn and meaningful, CP Azare noted that the occasion serves as a powerful reminder of the bravery and dedication that define the Nigeria Police Force. He reaffirmed the Force’s unwavering commitment to standing by the families of its fallen heroes.
He emphasized that the late officers served with honour, wearing the uniform with pride and confronting danger with remarkable courage so that society could live in peace. According to him, their sacrifices remain indelible and will continue to inspire generations within the Force.
Addressing the bereaved families with compassion, the Commissioner assured them that their loss is shared and their sacrifices deeply valued.
“What we present today goes beyond financial assistance. It is a symbol of our enduring gratitude, a recognition of extraordinary sacrifice, and a promise that you will never be forgotten. Though nothing can replace your loved ones, we remain committed to supporting you and upholding their legacy,” he said.
CP Azare also commended the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, for prioritizing the welfare of officers and their families, noting significant strides in timely benefit payments and improved support systems.
He urged serving officers to draw inspiration from their fallen colleagues, reminding them that policing is a noble calling that demands courage, discipline, and selfless service. He encouraged them to honour the memory of the departed through renewed dedication and professionalism.
The ceremony concluded with prayers for the peaceful repose of the fallen officers and strength for their families to carry on.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr. Michael Michael Urua expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Nigeria Police Force for its support and for ensuring that the sacrifices of their loved ones are never forgotten.
