Popular Nollywood actor and lawyer, Kanayo O. Kanayo, has made a strong appeal to the **Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN)** to introduce a landmark policy that would guarantee lifetime royalty payments to all actors and actresses.
Under the proposed system, every Nigerian actor featured in a movie that is uploaded to any streaming platform would receive ongoing royalty payments for as long as the film continues to generate revenue. Kanayo also recommended the establishment of a dedicated regulatory agency to oversee the nationwide implementation and enforcement of this policy.
Speaking on the matter, the veteran star emphasized that such a framework would provide long-term financial security for actors, allowing them to continue earning from their talent and hard work throughout their lives. He highlighted the harsh reality many face in the industry, where actors often struggle financially or fall into poverty once they stop landing major roles.
This proposal has sparked widespread conversations within the Nollywood community, with many viewing it as a much-needed reform to address the current one-time payment model that leaves performers without residual income from the continued success of their films on digital platforms.
What do you think about this very step, I love it and how about you?
